Tommy Lee Jones with a Newspaper, also known as Implied Facepalm, is a screen capture of the actor Tommy Lee Jones giving a disapproving look while holding a newspaper. It is often used as a reaction image and has spawned many derivatives.
Origin
The original image is one of promotional pictures for the 2007 thriller film No Country for Old Men. The picture comes from a scene between Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones) and Deputy Wendell (Garret Dillahunt).
Spread
On December 16th, 2008, a demotivational poster featuring the Tommy Lee Jones image with the caption “Implied Facepalm” was highlighted on the website De-Motivational-Posters.[2] The term is defined as “When something is so utterly stupid, a full and proper facepalm is not even necesarry.”
On March 10th, 2009, the definition was submitted to Urban Dictionary by a user Dudeman42.[3] On September 15th, 2012, Imgur user outofexile[1] created a gallery of derivatives featuring characters from the multiplayer online battle arena game DoTA 2.
