One Tiny Hand is a single topic blog that features edited photographs of celebrities with one hand reduced in size.
Origin
On October 4th, 2008, the sketch comedy television show Saturday Night Live parodied the 1970s televised variety show The Lawrence Welk Show, in which actress Kristen Wiig played a physically deformed member of a sister act with tiny doll-sized hands.
The “One Tiny Hand” Tumblr[1] blog was launched on March 11th, 2012, with its first post featuring an edited photo of singer-songwriter Beyoncé Knowles cradling her pregnant stomach with one hand photoshopped to appear smaller than the other.

On March 19th, Redditor redslate linked to the Tumblr in a post to the /r/pics[7] subreddit titled “One tiny hand… A friend just created this photoblog.” Within three months, the post received over 11,000 up votes and 390 comments. The same day, BuzzFeed[13] staff member Peggy Wang published a post titled “Kim Jong Il, Emasculated By One Tiny Hand”, which featured an edited photo of the deceased former leader of North Korea Kim Jong Il (shown below).
On March 20th, the Internet culture blog Up Roxx[6] published a post titled “The 10 Most Subtly Creepy One Tiny Handed Celebrities”, which featured a slideshow of notable examples from the series. The same day, blogger Jason Kottke[3] published a post titled “One Tiny Hand”, including an edited photo of the cast from the 1980s sitcom The Golden Girls (shown below).
On March 21st, the Internet humor site Funny or Die[14] published a compilation of edited photos in a post titled “7 People With One Tiny Hand.” On March 29th, the tech news blog Mashable[2] published a post titled “Bizarre Tumblr ‘One Tiny Hand’ Pokes Fun at Celebs”, reporting that the Tumblr had received over 800,000 hits since launch. As of June 29th, 2012, the @onetinyhand Twitter[4] account has received over 175 followers and a Facebook[15] page for “One Tiny Hand” has received over 400 likes.
Notable Examples
Pringles Ad
On May 29th, 2012, a leaked advertisement for the potato chip brand Pringles was uploaded to YouTube. The video, created by the ad agency Grey Mexico, featured an anthropologist interacting with an indigenous tribe that can shrink their hands to fit inside a Pringles’ can.
The same day, the ad was highlighted by several websites including BuzzFeed[12], Mashable[8] and The Daily Dot[11], who noted that the premise was strikingly similar to the Tumblr blog. On May 30th, the advertising news blog Ad Week[9] published a post titled “Pringles Ad Accused of Ripping Off ‘One Tiny Hand’ Tumblr”, which included a statement by Grey Mexico claiming they did not authorize the ad to be broadcast. The following day, the advertising news blog Ad Land[10] published a post defending Grey Mexico, citing several other ads that were based around people with small hands.
